A genuine experience of old Thai hospitality
Boat paddling on a village tour
Suggested Trip :Thai Village Life on the Canals of Tha Ka
(TRA.VL 09: 3 days 2 nights : ex Bangkok)

Tha Kha is perhaps the most charming and traditional of the green areas of orchards
and farms surrounding Bangkok. Staying in a villager's comfortable home on a canal in a coconut orchard, you will have a genuine experience of old Thai hospitality. On this trip, you will enjoy the home cooking and be able to try your hand at producing coconut sugar with the villagers.

Day 1 Transfer by air-con car with guide to Ta Kha village, Samut Sonkhram province. Your host will take you for a walk through coconut orchards to the teakwood house where you will stay. You may paddle small boats on the canals, meet other villagers, and on weekends observe the market where villagers sell their produce from boats in the canal.

Day 2 Join your host to offer food to monks who row small boats along the canal to let people make merit.
After breakfast, learn the process of making coconut sugar and try it yourself.
Afternoon, Go by boat to see other aspects of village life, such as boat-repair and knife-making.

Day3 Visit a village making a variety of handicrafts from coconuts.
Stop at the beautiful Thai teak house and museum at the Rama II park before returning to Bangkok.

Note: This cross cultural program has been operated for both general tourists and student groups including regular visits of students from Standford , Keio , and Tokyo Universities. Due to each group's objectives, some activities can be added up upon requests such as a school visit, a local traditional puppet show at home, a night cultural event etc. The itinerary can be shortened to two days/one night and organized as a self-drive trip.

I have really enjoyed seeing the traditional side of Thai life! Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming, and made us feel so at home. Our guides were very informatives and had a great sense of humour. They were very flexible and introduced Thai culture in a way that was easy to understand.

Thank you so much for putting together this incredible trip. It is a once in a lifetime experince that I will always remember. I had the chance to live with a very kind and warm family, as well as see how a village can sustain itself in a healthy and successful way. Darlene Damm
